Highland Pine Products

Highland Pine Products is a large sawmill with many work stations, situated on Oberon NSW. Due to the nature of the industry and the company's regard for multi-skilling, training employees for their role in new areas, was eating into productive time and the training budget. HPP partnered with Digital Wisdom to develop a clear concise medium of operator training with a higher return on investment.

Digital Wisdom devised a computer based training package to educate and train new employees to work at the Holtec Docker - a precision cutting saw. Digital Wisdom partnered closely with HPP subject experts, to ensure the instruction was technically correct. With video footage, clear diagrams, maps, voice over and simulations the operators role was broken down and explained. This program aimed to give the operator the knowledge and confidence required to work safely and encourage understanding of their place in the larger mill.

The program was installed on the training room computers, but also on the computer at their work station - right there on the floor. With troubleshooting modules included, the operator always has access to the program and in down time, could be refreshing their training.

Digital Wisdom also made the program fully traceable to monitor the training time of each employee, and set up a direct email message to supervisors - if operators required further explanation.

HPP were so pleased with this new training initiative, they recently recontracted Digital Wisdom to deliver a similar training package for their site wide inventory software "MFG-Pro". This program makes use of screen captures and interactive software simulations to familiarise and train staff in the use of this complex system.

Screen 1
Interactive simulations engage the learner and requires active learning, resulting in improved confidence and retention.
Screen 2
Simple screen layouts and locality diagrams aid in navigation and make the training accessible and relevant to the learner.

We helped the company lock down work-practices, OHS issues, terminologies and procedures. This enabled the company to keep the knowledge in the company. No longer did the expert knowledge rest with a single, experienced operator on the floor.

Screen 3
Animations are yet another medium which help to explain the workstation.
Screen 4
On-site video footage engages the learner, as it is real and relevant to the workstation.
