E-learning for the Factory Floor

"Help! My shift workers are getting knowledge from everywhere.
It's not consistent and they're not at all interested in our training manuals!”

We've heard this before. To often just “getting out there and getting on with it” leads to very poor business practice. If your business is to succeed, all of your staff, top to bottom, have to be interested in safety and productivity. Easy to say – difficult to do. Just how do you get your workers to take pride and initiative in their work?
We help companies with this challenge every day. Recently we helped JELD-WEN Oberon, a leading door-skin manufacturer, set up a training regime that stimulated different types of learners and encourages best practice on the factory floor.
The main challenge for the company was to create consistent and detailed training guides and procedures that would actually be used by everyone at the plant. Digital Wisdom created a training package with elements of one-on-one training and elearning.

We helped the company lock down work-practices, OHS issues, terminologies and procedures. This enabled the company to keep the knowledge in the company. No longer did the expert knowledge rest with a single, experienced operator on the floor.

We then set ourselves to the task of making this information clear and interesting. It doesn't matter how good the information is – if it's delivered in a boring way it's not going in! Our video crews, graphic designers and instructional designers set to helping the learner through the information.

The resulting CD-ROM based package is now being used by new employees at the plant. It instructs both trainers and trainees and helps management assess the progress of all individuals. They undertake the various stages of training when convenient to the company; they're tested as they progress and the learning stimulus is varied and interesting.
